2 Guns, based on the graphic novel, features Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg in this action comedy as a DEA Agent and a Naval Intelligence Officer. They are trying to infiltrate a drug cartel but don’t know that each other are undercover. After a botched robbery from bad intel, they are on the run and have to work together to make things right.
I was surprised by how much I liked 2 Guns. I thought it was going to be a mediocre action film that starred two of Hollywood’s biggest actors. It turned out to be a fun, entertaining and action packed film. There were some action sequences that I have never seen before in a movie. Usually it is your typical car chase or gun fight but director, Baltasar Kormákur (Contraband), gave the audience something new to watch
There was just the right amount of comedy that it wasn’t over the top. Denzel and Wahlberg had great chemistry on screen and there was never a dull moment between them. Usually Wahlberg is a little too extreme in his comedy films which makes it hard to watch. It was pleasant to see how witty and charismatic he made his character. Denzel looks like he is having fun on every film he is in. He knows he could probably be nominated every year for an Oscar but decides to take on popcorn films. It is worth seeing the movie just for the two of them.
There really isn’t much more to say about 2 Guns. It had some great characters and awesome action. This film had a great supporting cast as well including Paula Patton (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol), Bill Paxton (Twister, Aliens), James Marsden (X-Men) and Edward James Almos (Dexter). If you want to be entertained at the movies, there is fun in 2 Guns for everyone.
