Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Steve Rogers also known as Captain America is adjusting to life in modern day society after the battle of New York. He meets new friends and foes as he aims to solve a mystery around S.H.I.E.L.D and take down a new enemy who goes by the name, The Winter SoldierFinally a good Marvel sequel has arrived in their Cinematic Universe! For some reason, the sequels of Iron Man and Thor were very underwhelming which had me worried about Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Luckily that wasn’t the case and this is the best Marvel film behind The Avengers. Everything about it was fantastic and it’s hard for me to find a single thing wrong with the film. I still find it amazing the plan that Marvel Studios, headed by Kevin Feige, have set in motion for its superheroes. Apparently, they have movies lined up to 2028 according to a recent article in the Bloomberg Magazine. I will be 40 years old by that time and I know I’ll still be a fan by that point.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier was directed by two brothers, Anthony and Joe Russo. These guys have previously done You, Me and Dupree and several episodes of Community and Arrested Development. It’s hard to imagine how they ended up directing the latest Captain America film but they completely nailed it out of the park. They gave some of the best choreographed fight sequences out of all the Marvel films which were suspenseful and action packed. This film felt a little more a spy thriller similar to the Bourne Trilogy. It also had a fantastic script which was penned by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely (Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor:The Dark World). It’s story was a mystery and hard to predict all the way until the end. I’m just glad that all of these guys are signed up for the next Captain America film.
Chris Evans gave a great performance as Captain America along with his partner, Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson and his new friend Sam Wilson aka Falson, played by Anthony Mackie. There was great chemistry between all of them especially Mackie and Evans. They were hilarious provided much of the comic relief and I can only hope they add Falcon into the Avengers. If not, I’ll be happy to see him again in the next sequel. Samuel L. Jackson was given more to do with his character as Nick Fury in this film and thought he was great. There is a nice little Easter egg about him in the movie so see if you can find it. There are a lot of Easter Eggs in this film so look out for all of them. And be sure to stay for the credits because there is a scene during AND after them.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a film that must be seen if you are even remotely interested in The Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is shaping the way for the rest of the films to come out and also including the television show, Agents of Shield. There were some big changes to come to the universe and it’s in a great way. I am so excited to see where these films take us next so go out and see this film as soon as you can before it gets spoiled.
